The study entitled: "Protective effect of sivelestat, a neutrophil elastase inhibitor, on ipsilateral and contralateral testes after unilateral testicular ischaemia-reperfusion injury in rats" is included in a series of experiments of the Department of Molecular Pharmacology of Professor Keisuke Satoh. These experiments mainly focus on the deleterious effect of the ischaemia-reperfusion injury in various tissues.

In our study we investigated the unilateral ischaemia reperfusion injury in the testis and how this injury has an effect in the contralateral testis. In order to reverse this injury, we administered a neutrophil elastase inhibitor and we proved the protective effect of this drug.

I am very glad to have participated with Dr. Fotios Dimitriadis in this study under the directions of the Associate Professor Motoaki Saito, and obtained good results according to the initial hypothesis. The study was candidate from Professor's Nikolaos Sofikitis Department of Urology and awarded the first prize at the 20th Congress of the Hellenic Urological Association that has taken place in Lemesos, Cyprus October 23-27, 2010.

I feel very happy and this is a motivation for me to continue high standard research in order to add a small stone in the effort to enlighten some fields of urological and andrological pathologies with the directions of my teachers.
