Research Themes

1. We aim to clarify the mechanisms underlying the development of the brain in an effort to restore brain function following brain damage and developmental disorders. Specifically, our research examines how sensory and social experience influences the development of neural circuitry in the neocortex.

2. We are currently examining the structure and function of proteins and protein domains using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) techniques. Interactions between protein-protein, protein-nucleic acid, and protein-metal ions have been analyzed on the basis of the structure of proteins to elucidate the pathogenesis of diseases and develop appropriate treatments. In particular, we have carried out studies on the influence of aluminum on human health.
