Medical director greetings

Welcome to the homepage of Tottori University Faculty of Medicine.
Our medical school consists of three major divisions: the School of Medicine, School of Life Sciences, and School of Health Science. Working under our philosophy to respect the sanctity of life, we work in collaboration to nurture innovative health care professionals and life scientists who can make substantial contributions to community health and medical research.
Tottori University Faculty of Medicine was founded in March 1945 as Yonago Medical College, which later became Yonago Medical University in February of 1948. In May 1949, we celebrated the founding of Tottori University Faculty of Medicine following promulgation of the National University Establishment Act. Since then, the Faculty of Medicine has steadily expanded, with the establishment of the Graduate School of Medical Sciences in 1958, the University Brainstem Disorder Research Facility in 1962, and the University Steroid Research Facility in 1966.
In 1990, at the beginning of the bioscience era, in response to the needs of society, we became the first national university to launch a School of Life Sciences. Later in 1999, the College of Medical Technology was reorganized into the School of Health Science.
Medical Sciences and Life Sciences majors are offered at the Graduate School of Medical Sciences. The Institute of Regenerative Medicine and Biofunction started to offer an independent major in 2003. The Master’s and Doctor of Philosophy (postgraduate and doctoral) degree programs in Health Science have been offered since 2004 and 2008, respectively. The Center for Clinical Psychology was established in 2008 and has been offering a Master’s degree program in Clinical Psychology since 2009.
Although the University Brainstem Disorder Research Facility has since been closed, we currently offer neurology courses to supplement neuroscience education at the Faculty of Medicine and the Graduate School of Medical Sciences.

In 2003, the Support Center for Bioscience Research was established, comprising the four divisions of Functional Genomics, Functional Radiation Science, Laboratory Animal Science, and Instrumental Analysis.

The Medical Education Center was established in April 2007 and is composed of The Office of Support for Medical Education, the Faculty Office of Support for Regional Medical Education, the Office of Research Support for Graduate Students of Medicine, and the Postgraduate Clinical Research Center.
The Medical Library, one of our facilities supporting the education and research of students and medical personnel, offers 2,380,000 books in cooperation with other public and university libraries in the prefecture. We are also committed to fulfilling our obligation of being the only medical library in the prefecture.
Thus, through improving our organizational facilities, we continually look to enhance educational and research systems for the undergraduate as well as the graduate schools.
