Greeting

I am Katsuya Urakami, and I have recently been appointed as a professor of the Dementia Prevention Course (donated course).

Japan is becoming a super-aging society, and it is estimated that the number of dementia patients will exceed 7 million in 2025. One in five people over the age of 65 has dementia, and prevention is an urgent need. In addition, this issue is not only a problem in Japan, but a global issue, and it is reported that one person with dementia develops dementia every three seconds in the world. In support of tackling such issues, we received a donation from Kobayashi Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. and were able to create this course.

The three pillars of this course's efforts are education, research, and contribution to the community. In education, in order to develop human resources who can be involved in dementia prevention, I am in charge of lectures such as disease theory in undergraduate education, dementia prevention special lectures in graduate school education, and dementia prevention seminars. In research, we will develop tools for early detection that are useful for dementia prevention, and development of tools that are useful for prevention. In addition, we will support efforts to prevent dementia in the community using preventive tools and carry out awareness-raising activities. I would also like to collaborate with the Japanese Society for Dementia Prevention, of which I serve as a chairman.

It is planned for three years until 2025, but I would like to do my best to produce fruitful results. I kindly thank you.
